Teaching Philosophy
Caring About the Content of Your Character

Personal Statement - Teaching and Learning

Within my time of teaching I have experienced a range of international curriculum programs.  Working in the United Kingdom, New Zealand and South Korea has allowed me to develop initiatives through the International Baccalaureate, Cambridge International Examinations Program, Inquiry Based Learning and New Zealand Curriculum. Being a founding faculty member of Branksome Hall Asia, sister schools with Branksome Hall Canada (one of the world’s top boarding schools) I have worked with a team of staff, developing initiatives and the opportunities to bring this world class school to life.

My philosophy embraces teaching and learning through a holistic program. It encourages people to utilize their strengths to reach their full potential. It fosters authorship and autonomy through goal setting, pride, passion and reflection.  My aim is to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people and help to shape a better world through intercultural understanding and respect. I am an authentic leader, internationally minded and passionate about education. I stand by my beliefs. I am motivated and embrace a growth mindset. I engage with the people around me, build relationships, encourage innovation, mastery of strengths and seek for areas of improvement with a desire to achieve success.

I believe personalized learning is a unique teaching model that is tailored to the needs and interests of each individual student. It recognizes the unique gifts, skills, passions, and attributes of students, engaging each child. This makes learning productive, relevant and meaningful. It optimizes the student’s learning potential. I embrace personalized learning as it embodies flexibility, inclusion, collaboration and innovation. I recognize the value of parent involvement and participation in their children's education. I support a collaborative relationship between parent, student, teacher, and school in creating an optimal learning process. I embrace a variety of learning choices and opportunities, both within and beyond the classroom that will maximize individual learning potential.

My personal teaching and management goals are as follows:

To grow individual learning styles, technology access and a variety of learning environments within and beyond the classroom.

To develop learning programs that is tailored according to the individual needs and preferences of each student.

To encourage and support parents to be actively involved in their children’s education and to take personal responsibility for ensuring
that children are learning successfully.

To facilitate a personalized learning program through an ongoing collaborative relationship between parents, students, teachers, the school and the greater community.

To commit to dynamic staff development programs that help education specialists learn how to tailor learning according to student’s learning styles, needs, and aspirations.

To embrace globally minded learners.

To challenge and inspire people to embrace life-long learning and to shape a better world with the whole family and community.

To maximize the use of resources and facilities within the local and national community.

To make a difference.
